Prayer Vigil for Burma

Burma Prayer Vigil

On October 11, 2008, Auburn Presbyterian Church joined with others for a candlelight prayer vigil on behalf of the situation in Burma.  Burma (Myanmar) had been in the news for the atrocities that are going on there, and the Buddhist-led protests in the cities that were being met with a violent response from the government.

Participants gathered at the clock tower in downtown Auburn.

The Michels

Bill Michel, middle, of APC, whose late wife was from Burma, welcomed everyone.  His daughter Grace, left, spoke about the situation in Burma.  Pastor Ken Winter of APC is on the right.

Pastor Ken Praying

Pastor Ken Winter of APC led the opening prayer.  A local Buddhist monk was invited to join the vigil, and he led a chant.

APC has been active with Burma in several ways.  We sponsor the Billion People Praying for Burma campaign and the Hope for Burma website.  Find out more information on the situation in Burma, why APC is involved, and Bill Michel's trip to Thailand.
