Other Ministries

Auburn Presbyterian Church is committed to being a help to community organizations that reach out to meet needs that are greater than one church can address.  APC members volunteer in the organizations listed below.

Greater Placer Assistance League

This organization promotes community service.  They assist children with back-to-school outfits and supplies, provide job-appropriate clothing for women and men entering the work force, give teddy bears to hospital emergency rooms and the Highway Patrol to use to encourage children traumatized by an event, help teens to develop competencies for adult living, provides clothing and personal items for victims of sexual assault, and distributes gifts and cards to elderly care facility residents who are without family or friends.

The Placer Lunch Bunch

Churches of the Auburn area, for the past several years, have served lunch to Placer High students on Mondays.  It is a way to show youth that people in churches care about them.  About 400 students are fed each Monday.  Ken Sherer led an APC team that prepared lunches several times in the 2006-2007 school year.  APC is due to serve lunch 3 times during the 2007-2008 school year.

Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital

APC volunteers at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital do a variety of activities, including volunteering in the gift shop.

Acres of Hope

Acres of Hope is a ministry to homeless women and children with a Christian discipling approach to teaching the mothers life skills along with the gospel.  APC encouraged the start of this Bayside Covenant Church’s initiated ministry, and our Women’s Ministry has ongoing contact.

Salvation Army Family Services

We have participated more actively in the Salvation Army Family Services program in the past than we do presently.  People with pickups or vans who can handle and haul boxes of food are always needed.  The Salvation Army now has a large freezer and refrigeration unit and serves as the area's central distributing point.  A sizable number of non profit organizations obtain food from them.

What Would Jesus Do?

This ministry, which has been in Roseville for a number of years, is now operating in the Auburn area as well.  Each morning, a van is loaded with a container of coffee and one of hot water for tea, instant oatmeal, and ramen.  Other breakfast items are also carried to feed homeless people at some place in the area.  A specific place is designated for each day of the week.  For example, Tuesday is at Adventist Community Services.  People are always needed to serve on a team.  People in the medical profession are especially needed.
