Our Vision for Youth at APC
At Auburn Presbyterian Church, our youth matter. We strive to create an atmosphere where youth can encounter God for themselves and recognize how Jesus is working in their lives. We train and equip them to grow in their faith through intentional relationships and biblical teaching. As well trained and equipped disciples of Jesus Christ they will be encouraged to impact the lives of those around them: friends, family and community.
Encounter: God
Their eyes were opened and they recognized him....They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”—Luke 24:31-32
- We long for our youth to come to faith in Jesus Christ and grow in desire for relationship with Him.
- We strive to create an atmosphere in which youth can encounter God for themselves.
Grow: Discipleship
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.—Matthew 28:19-20
- We hope that all of our youth will feel a part of the larger youth ministry as a whole, be connected in a small group of peers who care for and love each other, and make one strong, personal friendship.
- We train up our youth to become faithful followers of our Lord Jesus through intentional relationships and teaching.
- We equip youth with all they need to “Be one, make one” — to be disciples themselves and to make more disciples.
Impact: Reach Out
Again Jesus said, “Simon, son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”—John 21:16
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.—Philippians 2:1-4
- We encourage our youth to reach out to their friends with the love of Jesus.
- We give our youth a vision to “give it away” and live to serve their communities, and those less fortunate.
