Event Schedule

Auburn Presbyterian Church has some events that occur regularly.  Here is an overview of our annual schedule.  Please check our upcoming events page for more details when the time for the event comes close.  Our calendar also has scheduled events for the next month or two.

January

First Sunday – prayer for persecuted Christians
Second Sunday – baptism renewal
Anniversary Sunday – 3rd or 4th Sunday

Lent (6 weeks before Easter, usually starting in February)

During this time, Auburn Presbyterian Church teams with 5 other churches to hold a weekly Lenten service each Wednesday evening.  Each host church conducts the service as they would usually do, but a pastor from another church preaches.  The first Wednesday is Ash Wednesday.  Worshippers at this service go forward and a pastor dips their pointing finger in ashes made from burning the palms from last year’s Palm Sunday Service and marks a cross on each person’s forehead.  The churches in this group besides APC are Bethlehem Lutheran Church, First Congregational Church, Pioneer United Methodist Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, St. Theresa and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Churches.

Each Sunday of Lent, scripture is read and a visual developed.

Maunday Thursday (Thursday before Easter)

This marks the evening before the Crucifixion, The Last Supper when the rite of Communion/The Lord’s Supper was initiated.  We have a special service at 7 p.m. that night.  Some years, a traditional Jewish Seder, which is the meal that Jesus ate with His disciples, is conducted by a Messianic Rabbi from a Jewish Synagogue that accepts Jesus as Messiah and consider themselves “completed Jews.”

Easter Sunday

Floral CrossThe day before, we bring spring flowers to decorate a special cross we have.  It has a wire netting into which the flowers may be placed.  A beautiful floral cross is produced and decorates the sanctuary during the service.

A Sunrise Service is conducted, followed by a good breakfast.  We also have a service at our regular time.

Sunday After Easter

Children Hunt for Eggs the Week after EasterThe After Easter Easter Egg Hunt is conducted by the Hands On Life Group the week following Easter.  Children invite friends to Sunday School so they can be there for the hunt after church.  The Easter Story is retold and several hundred plastic eggs filled with candy and other items are hidden in the park-like area beyond the church office and up the hillside.  (Those missed produce “snacks” for the men who mow the tall grass a month or so later.)

Vacation Bible School

Auburn Presbyterian conducts a Vacation Bible School program one week every summer.

Old-Fashioned Hymn Sing

Enjoy food, fellowship, and music at this annual event occurring in the late summer.  Take a look at the 2007 event.

Advent (4 weeks before Christmas)
Lighting of the Advent Candles

Each Sunday of Advent an Advent Candle is lighted with a reading telling the meaning of that candle.

The Giving Tree

During Advent, the Local Mission Ministry Team and the Worldwide Mission Ministry Team present several possibilities to contribute to a special need.  Angels from Salvation Army, sponsorships for the Sponsor-a-Family program of the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, and animals for the Heifer Project are some basic offerings.

Christmas Eve Service

No matter the day of Christmas, there is a Christmas Eve Service
